The British TT Championships. (Holmes Chapel)
The week started for me by traveling to Inverness to pick up the Highland Institute of Sport car ready for the journey to Holmes Chapel. Accommodation was booked well in advance (a nice wee farm) 3 miles from the course.
We arrived (myself & Gary that is.) Thursday noon ish, got settled in then headed out for a ride round the course. Very nice it was, rolling, not to hilly and some nice lanes. Friday we rode the lap twice with a few extra passes at junctions etc. On Saturday some brisk efforts and some bike maintenance was the order of the day.
Race day arrived and all was well, Gary completed the Masters event (finishing an excellent 5th). At 1pm i rode out from the farm to the course to begin prep. Pulling up behind David Millar on the start line was quite something (carpi diem). Easing onto the first few miles an early time check for the West of Scotland crew put me down on David Millar, no surprise. Started to pick things up and got a few positive checks. Puncturing out at 16 miles the race was all over for me and a Very long drive back to Inverness was ahead.
At least no real damage was done and I'll live to fight another day !
