Well done to all who took part in the ride.
Finishing the ride, head to toe in dirt and grime some how seemed well worth it. A change and ready for the evening Braveheartfund Fundraising Dinner, although seeing the amount of goodies on the go after the ride I'm not sure many people would have the space for dinner.
Being my first Braveheartfund Fundraising Dinner I was not sure what to expect. A well organized gathering of friends & supporters to the Fund made for an excellent night one which everyone involved looked to be having a great time.
I'm looking forward to next years event already !!

Bonnyton moor hill climb looks a lot easier from the car than it does when your asked to ride up it against the clock, so giving it everything was not going to be nice.
With a fairly easy start you'd be forgiven for starting fast but a very light shower of rain meant the road was a little damp and care was needed on the first few corners. A small slightly steeper section at about 1/3 distance required a few gear changes then onto the fairly steady drag to the finish. A head wind this year made things quite tough on a few of the exposed sections, particularly the final few hundred meters to the finish therefore slowing things down a little. Completing such a lung bursting effort to the top of a moor in Scotland in October is quite something, well done to everyone who raced. Thank you to Imac images for sending a few shots of the day for the gallery.

October can be a difficult time of the year to keep the motivation
going but this years Tour of the Trossachs was held on one of the best
days we've seen all year. I was keen to have a go at the hill climb
record and could not have asked for better conditions. After a good
warm-up I was on the start line for 11:30. Settling into a nice pace on
the road into Aberfoyle things were good, rounding the corner at the
bottom of the Dukes pass and the classic climb was ahead. Concentrating
well I was able to get a good pace on the hill and posted a 12:37. Dry
roads on the decent of the Dukes pass made for an enjoyable time. The
remaining miles of the course are technical and at times the road
surface is not the best. The section after Thornhill is one of the
worst and by this time, nearing the finish, things were getting tough.
Finishing with a 1:04:47 topped of a good workout. Many thanks to Mike
& Lesley at the Westerton in Calender. Also thanks to Edd and
Martin for some great shouts.

Waking early on Sunday morning high above Kilwinning in Ayrshire we, (myself & Gary), quickly realised that we were in for a tough race. Wet roads and at times strong winds were the order of the day. The first few miles brought some nice rolling roads out of the Eglinton park starting point. Once turning left of the A736 the roads turned a little rustic, very slippery on many of the corners and i was to find myself running very wide on a number of bends with two trips onto the grass i can remember ! Paul & Sean had the miss-fortune of coming off but both got away with the usual injuries. The course seemed longer than the approx 24 miles we had been told, i think after a quick google that 27 miles-ish is more like it, we'll need to wait on the official measurement. The Edge RT/Dooleys cycles also won the team prise, well done to Gary Robson & Tom Dempster.

After the disappointment of the British Championships another trip to the fast Levens course for an attempt at the British 10 TT record was my focus. Stevie, David & myself traveled most of the way down on the Friday night. Having had a couple of good sessions after the circuit Champs i felt ready for a good ride. Good conditions were needed if i was to get anywhere near the 17:58 set by Bradley Wigans last year, an amazing ride. Arriving at the course there was a bit of a breeze and by the time i was set to start my description of "a bit blowy" was considered an under statement. Starting into the wind on the outward leg i quickly realized the speed needed was not attainable for me. Rounding the turn i got stuck into the run home reaching speeds of 38.5 mph. 55, 56, 57, 58..... the record was never really on but i was still disappointed to see the 18 minute mark appear. Easing of and free wheeling across the line brought a time of 18:54. A good workout, next race the Scottish Olympic TT Championships.

The week started for me by traveling to Inverness to pick up the Highland Institute of Sport car ready for the journey to Holmes Chapel. Accommodation was booked well in advance (a nice wee farm) 3 miles from the course.
We arrived (myself & Gary that is.) Thursday noon ish, got settled in then headed out for a ride round the course. Very nice it was, rolling, not to hilly and some nice lanes. Friday we rode the lap twice with a few extra passes at junctions etc. On Saturday some brisk efforts and some bike maintenance was the order of the day.
Race day arrived and all was well, Gary completed the Masters event (finishing an excellent 5th). At 1pm i rode out from the farm to the course to begin prep. Pulling up behind David Millar on the start line was quite something (carpi diem). Easing onto the first few miles an early time check for the West of Scotland crew put me down on David Millar, no surprise. Started to pick things up and got a few positive checks. Puncturing out at 16 miles the race was all over for me and a Very long drive back to Inverness was ahead.
At least no real damage was done and I'll live to fight another day !

Pez interview with Ed Hood -
http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/default.asp?pg=fullstory&id=5269
